Not a documentary. Not a work of fiction. The 10×10 movie is a hybrid that seeks to bring stories to the screen that are both unique and universal. At the core are 10 real girls, identified through hundreds of hours of field research. Working closely with our NGO Partners in the field, we interview dozens and dozens of girls from a wide range of circumstances in each country.

The girls chosen to appear in the film are selected in consultation with 10 acclaimed women writers. These writers are not only our collaborators, but a bridge deep into the lives of the girls themselves—our chance to tell a story that might not be captured in a traditional documentary. A voice for girls who might otherwise never be heard.
Meet the 10×10 girls
The writer spends significant time in the field with the girl she has chosen. We are trying to tell stories that go beyond what can be seen on the surface, so this immersion is essential. The writer then returns home to write. The writings that are created about our 10 girls form the foundation for the film’s 10 segments.
Meet the 10×10 writers
Together, these 10×10 stories broadly illuminate the single, unifying story of girls struggling to get an education in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles. These girls present an incredible array of voices, each striving to make a better life for herself, her family, and her country.
